Passage: Faith from afar

Built around the philosophical personal spiriual journey of the sceptic faced with the biblical text, Passage is a musical dialogue into which the listener is invited. A free discussion between a voice accompanied by 7 string guitar and a vocal quartet backed by piano, with a jazz vibe.

Every artistic work has its share of audacity … Daring to

Give voice to the Biblical text without backing away from the force of some of its content, counting on the interpretation to bring out its hidden gentleness… represent with lucidity a range of objections from a hardened sceptic… leave the oucome open, without a ‘happy ending’ out of a desire for authenticity and to respect the freedom of the public

In concert

Passage was created at the request of the Festival d’Art Sacré in Orléans, and performed for the first time at the Cathédrale Ste Croix d’Orléans with a vocal quartet, the pianist le pianiste Dave Leonard Cooke and Ruth Hughes, dancer from Springs Dance Company, GB. Also performed in le Mans and Paris.

Reactions

You come away having lived through a lot of emotion, with a huge sense of peace. Beautiful, very beautiful Listener

‘This musical work offers content of rare pertinence on the contemporary perception of the sacred. Passage rapidly draws the audience in to a fascinating universe which speaks as much to the non-religious as to the believer.’ République du Centre

Scores avaiable

Passage was originally conceived as a performance show rather than a choral work. But the songs from the vocal quartet can be used by choirs : vocal and piano scores are available as well as individual part mp3s for rehearsal.
